Making Lemonade out of Lemons
What do you do when chaos arrives at your doorstep? When cool jazz rhythms are replaced by hot asphalt and jackhammers and you wonder if either tourist or local shopper will brave the dusty street to cross your doorstep? If you’re Artifax Art-to-Wear on the Plaza, you’ll deck out your window in chartreuse & orange workman’s vests, drape them with luscious Italian jewelry and call it Haut Couture!
“We decided to embrace the situation and make it into a piece of art” says Artifax owner Kaeti Bailie. “It’s fun, and fanciful and lifts everyone’s spirits”. “PG&E has been great to us” says Bailie, “they loaned us a hardhat, vests and some road signs for our window and crew member Dawndee Webster even gave up her lunch hour to pose in Angela Caputi jewelry in front of our window”
“I’ve been impressed with how quickly the PG&E crews have worked, and how much they have tried to accommodate the businesses on the square. Given the situation, they have made it easy for us, and so have our local and tourist customers. We had one of our busiest days ever the first day PG&E started digging.”
The work is expected to last another week or so, so in the meantime, come on down to the Plaza, we’re all still open for business – we thrive on Chaos.by
